FARMINGTON — An unidentified man died today in a house fire in Shiprock, according to Navajo Nation officials.

Firefighters respond to the scene of a house fire in Shiprock on Tuesday that claimed the life of an unidentified man.

The blaze was reported north of Bluff Road and east of 4th Lane, according to a press released issued late today by the Office of the President and Vice President of the Navajo Nation.

Shiprock police responded to the scene within eight minutes, and the Shiprock Fire Department was there within 12 minutes, according to the release, while other units provided support. When the fire was extinguished, officials found a burned, dead body inside the residence, the release states.
“While we deeply regret hearing that a life was lost in the fire, we applaud the Shiprock Police Department and the fire departments of Shiprock, Ojo Amarillo and Newcomb for coming to the assistance of the family who lost their home and loved one,” Navajo President Russell Begaye said in the release.

The case has been referred to the Navajo Nation’s Shiprock criminal investigations unit in conjunction with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and the New Mexico Office of the Medical Investigator.
