FARMINGTON — The Navajo Nation Council's Resources and Development Committee has certified a community-based land use plan for Newcomb Chapter.

The new plan accommodates the economic, infrastructure, grazing, farming and cultural needs of the community, according to a press release from the speaker’s office.

Speaker LoRenzo Bates, who represents Newcomb Chapter, sponsored the legislation.

Bates said in the release that the new plan reflects the chapter’s mission and vision and addresses concerns that were not included in the previously approved plan.

"The new community land use plan will reflect community needs that were excluded in the previous plan. This plan includes new opportunities that the community can use to develop and succeed," Bates said.

The chapter’s first community land use plan was approved by the committee in 2006.
