FARMINGTON — Law enforcement officials have released new details on a double-fatal vehicle crash that occurred Monday morning in southeastern San Juan County.

The crash occurred around 11:24 a.m. Monday northwest of Cuba and just west of the Rio Arriba County line on U.S. Highway 550.

A 31-year-old man and a 5-year-old girl died in the head-on crash, according to Sheriff's Office spokesperson Jayme Harcrow.

A red truck with a 6-foot-trailer attached was driving north, and a minivan occupied by a family was traveling south when the truck crossed into the southbound lane, then crashed into the minivan, Harcrow said.

The parents, their two children and their infant were in the minivan.

A 4-year-old boy and a 4-month-old boy were transported to an Albuquerque hospital with significant injuries, Harcrow said. The 4-year-old's injuries included a broken humerus, and the 4-month-old suffered a brain bleed and a serious hip injury.

Both victims are expected to survive, Harcrow said.

A 39-year-old woman sustained minor injuries and was admitted for observation, according to Detective Lt. Kyle Lincoln.

The truck driver sustained minor injuries. Alcohol is not believed to be a factor in the crash, Harcrow said.

The Sheriff's Office is still investigating the case, Lincoln said.
