FARMINGTON — Farmington City Council will meet at 6 p.m. Aug. 15 to discuss acquiring the remaining 95 percent ownership of San Juan Generating Station and transferring that ownership to Enchant Energy.

The City Council meets at 800 N. Municipal Drive in Farmington.

Farmington is currently a 5 percent owner of the power plant. The other owners plan to close San Juan Generating Station in 2022.

If Enchant Energy becomes the majority owner of the power plant, it plans to keep the facility open and investing about $1.3 billion to install carbon capture technology. Enchant Energy would then sell carbon dioxide from the power plant.
