FARMINGTON — After approximately a year of expansion and remodel work, the Farmington Civic Center is ready for the winter holidays.

Workers set up a synthetic ice skating rink and a Christmas tree Monday morning outside in a newly landscaped and remodeled courtyard.

The Farmington Civic Center expansion and remodel cost about $11.5 million and was paid for by a fee visitors pay to stay in hotel rooms in Farmington. The money generated from that fee can only be used on projects like expanding the civic center.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 2 during the annual Miracle on Main Street event.

Miracle on Main Street features activities for families including ice skating and the lighting of the Christmas tree. It will be held from 2 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. on Dec. 2.
