Farmington alleges airline owes landing, terminal fees
Great Lakes Aviation ended service at airport last year
FARMINGTON — The city of Farmington is alleging that Great Lakes Aviation failed to pay nearly $6,000 in landing fees and terminal fees during September and October before the company ceased service to the Four Corners Regional Airport.
Farmington filed a complaint in district court last week asking for the court to order Great Lakes to pay the alleged unpaid fees.
When reached by phone, Doug Voss, chief executive officer of Great Lakes Aviation, said he had not seen the lawsuit and could not comment.
The city alleges Great Lakes owes $693.88 for landing fees and $2,584.49 for terminal rent in September. It also alleges the airline owes $394.25 in landing fees and $2,311.72 in terminal rent for October.
Great Lakes Aviation offered commercial flights to and from Farmington until November 2017. It began flying to Farmington in 2001.
Great Lakes was the sole provider of commercial air service to and from the Four Corners Regional Airport prior to announcing it would stop flights last year.
The airline cited a pilot shortage as the primary reason for leaving the Four Corners Regional Airport.
According to the complaint, the city's most recent contract with Great Lakes Aviation ended in 2008. Because the city and the airline did not enter extension agreements, the two entities had a “tenancy at will” relationship, according to the complaint.
