The city of Aztec's created this solar farm on land off Western Drive. Farmington is considering building its own solar facility, and will discuss that concept at a public meeting on Wednesday.

FARMINGTON — People who would like to provide input about a potential solar garden can comment during the Farmington Public Utility Commission at 3 p.m. Wednesday in the executive conference room at Farmington City Hall, 800 N. Municipal Drive.

The city began negotiations for a solar garden at the end of January and the City Council will likely vote on the contract this month.

If the city chooses to build the solar garden, Farmington Electric Utility Service customers will have the opportunity to purchase shares.

The Public Utility Commission will provide a recommendation to the Farmington City Council about the size of the solar garden. The commission will evaluate three options during its Wednesday meeting: a 1,100-kilowatt facility, a 500-kilowatt array or no solar garden.
