State geology department officials will deliver presentation



FARMINGTON — The Gold King Mine Spill Citizens' Advisory Committee is scheduled to meet Monday evening at San Juan College and listen to a presentation from members of the New Mexico Department of Geology.

Ethan Namer, Talon Newman and Stacy Timmons from the state geology department will present an update on the geochemistry and hydrogeology of the Animas River Alluvial Aquifer, according to a New Mexico Environment Department press release.

The meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Monday in the SUNS room on the first floor of the Learning Commons Building at the San Juan College main campus at 4601 College Blvd. in Farmington. Public comment is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.

The committee is made of up stakeholders and local residents in San Juan County who provide information about the state's Gold King Mine spill long-term monitoring activities

The spill released more than 3 million gallons of heavy metals into the Animas and San Juan rivers in August. 2015.
