FARMINGTON — Each year, members of the Farmington City Council rank civic projects they would like to see completed.

During a work session at 9 a.m. Tuesday, the council will review projects for inclusion in the infrastructure capital improvement plan.

The plan is required by the state and is part of the city's planning process, according to City Manager Rob Mayes.

He said the plans are intended to help the city obtain grants and promote planning. Municipal governments have been required to have projects listed on their infrastructure capital improvement plans to get capital outlay money from the state. Mayes said state, federal and private grants also look at the plan.

Mayes said the city often includes unfunded projects on the list that have the potential of receiving grants. One example is the Piñon Hills Boulevard bridge and extension project. The project will create an important connection between east Farmington and Crouch Mesa.

A bus central hub is another project that could earn grant money. Mayes said the city staff will recommend including the transit hub on the list because of the potential for funding.

The city is required to list at least five projects. Mayes said there are usually between five and 10 on the list.

"There's no down side to including something on this list," he said.

In addition to reviewing projects, the City Council will also hear a report on the Farmington Electric Utility System's integrated resource plan.
