Police seeking information about arson fires
Foul play suspected in series of blazes around Sycamore Street

FARMINGTON — In the last year, there have been more than 20 suspected arson fires in south Farmington, and police believe the incidents could be related.
A post that appeared Thursday morning on the San Juan County Crime Stoppers' Facebook page asked people to submit anonymous tips if they have information about suspected arson fires in the area of Sycamore Street.
The blazes include house fires, structure fires and car fires. This is not the first time local public safety organizations have asked for help identifying suspects in the arson fires. In August, the Farmington Police Department and the Farmington Fire Department asked for tips due to several fires that had been started south of Murray Drive. In September, a mobile home was destroyed in a fire, and in November, two sheds were set on fire on consecutive days, according to archives.
"We have been watching trends and are working with Farmington Police Department," Deputy Fire Chief David Burke said.
He said the most recent fire was at a residence where someone was sleeping inside. Burke said that fire occurred around Christmas.
"The occupant got out of the residence on her own before we got there," Burke said.
He encouraged anyone who has information that could help the investigation to contact the fire marshal at 505-599-1439. People can also submit anonymous tips by calling 505-334-8477 or visiting sjccrimestoppers.org.
