FARMINGTON – A 51-year-old man died after being hit by a truck traveling south along N.M. Highway 371 this morning.

Officers for the Farmington Police Department were dispatched to the intersection of Highway 371 and Ojo Court about 6 a.m. after the driver of a Ford Ranger truck driving south struck Ricky Long crossing the road, according to Georgette Allen, a spokeswoman for the police department.

Paramedics attempted to resuscitate Long but he died at the scene.

When Long was struck by the truck, he had no identification on him, according to the press release.

Allen said officers do not believe speed or alcohol were a contributing factor for Long or the driver in the incident but it was still early in the investigation.

The driver — an unidentified 53-year-old Kirtland man — was not injured, Allen said.

Northbound and southbound lanes on the Bisti Highway were shut down following the incident for more than three hours.

Both lanes were reopened for traffic at 9:22 a.m., according to Allen.
