New Durango Joes Coffee opens on Main Street
FARMINGTON — The aroma of fresh coffee greeted customers this morning at the new Durango Joes Coffee location here.
The new site continues the Durango-based company's tradition of tasty beverages and friendly service in the Farmington Plaza shopping center at 3554 E. Main St., Suite H.
"It smells like heaven," Farmington resident Jessica Finch said after walking into the location for the first time today.
Finch and her friend, Rita Manchester, are frequent customers of the Durango Joes locations at 1501 E. 20th St. and 918 Main St., but they welcomed the new site because it is closer to their homes.
"I like them over Starbucks," Finch said after ordering an Avalanche, a latte comprised of white chocolate and macadamia nut.
"Me, too, because they're local, and I try to support our local business owners," Manchester said.
The coffee shop also sells pastries, sandwiches and salads. It also offers Durango Joes merchandise, including T-shirts, hoodies, ballcaps, mugs, tumblers and travel cups.
Farmington resident Bernadine Beyale lives near Sam's Club and purchased two Red Bull Infusion drinks for herself and her husband.
"We're so excited they built one here. It takes five minutes to get here," Beyale said.
She added that she is a regular customer at the other locations but orders by the drive-thru windows.
"I didn't know they had these," Beyale said after glancing at the sandwiches and merchandise.
Durango Joes owner Joe Lloyd said in a telephone interview Wednesday the business had been looking at opportunities to expand in Farmington.
"We've been well received. It's been a good move for us," Lloyd said about the new location.
The coffee shop opened last month, and a grand opening was held on Nov. 4.
Lloyd said a fourth company location will be housed in the new shopping center that is under construction next to Walmart on the west side. That site is scheduled to open in February and will offer seating and a drive-thru window, he said.
The company also plans to have an east-side location open near Dick's Sporting Goods late next year and will remodel the location at 1501 E. 20th St., he added.
"It's been fun taking our brand to Farmington and expanding our coffee shops. … It's a team effort, and we have a lot of great people who help make this effort come to fruition," Lloyd said.
