Body of unidentified man found in Animas River

FARMINGTON — The body of an unidentified man was discovered floating this afternoon in the Animas River.

Farmington police Cpl. Keith Herrera said an animal control agent spotted the body at 2:36 p.m. in the Animas River in south Farmington.

The Farmington Fire Department swift water rescue crew was able to make contact with the body at about 3 p.m. near the West Murray Drive bridge. The crew secured the body and pulled it from the river.

Police spokeswoman Georgette Allen said police did not yet know the man's identity.

She said detectives were dispatched to investigate the death.
