Leadership San Juan extends application deadline
FARMINGTON — Leadership San Juan is accepting applications for its upcoming class of 2017.
The program's board extended the deadline for applications after it did not receive enough by the May 15 deadline, according to Marjorie Black, the board secretary.
She said the board will now accept applications through June 24.
The nine-month program, offered through San Juan College, will meet monthly from September through May. Each meeting will highlight a different topic, such as education, health, criminal justice, multi-cultural issues, media and government. The topics will focus on San Juan County.
The class will also complete three community service projects. In the past, projects have included remodeling a mobile home for the New Beginnings Home for Women and Children and creating an after-school LEGO club at Lydia Rippey Elementary School in Aztec.
More than 620 people have graduated from the program, according a press release from Leadership San Juan.
The local program is one of about 2,000 leadership programs in communities across the country, the press release states.
Applications are available at sanjuancollege.edu/lsj. Contact Nancy Shepherd or Liesl Dees at San Juan College at 505-326-3311 for more information.
