FARMINGTON — The family of a long-time Farmington resident who died last week is hoping to carry on an altruistic tradition the woman started years ago.

Irma "Jean" Crawford, 68, was well known in the community for donating toys and stuffed animals to local fire and police departments.

In her honor, her family will collect donations of unwrapped toys at her memorial service at 1 p.m. Friday at Mountain Vista Baptist Church, 4401 Wildflower Drive in Farmington.

The Farmington Fire Department will send a fire engine to the church at the end of the service to collect donations.

Crawford moved to Farmington in 1981 and was active in the community, especially at high school baseball games, said her son, Steven Crawford. She often managed the snack bar at Ricketts Park and was friendly with nearly everybody in town, he said. She died on April 23.

"If mom would have ran, she could have been mayor of Farmington," he said.
