FARMINGTON — The city of Farmington has temporarily closed the Among the Waters river trail in southwest Farmington.

The trail has washed out in several places and needs to be repaired, according to a press release from the city's Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs department.

Department director Cory Styron said the damage was discovered Tuesday. He said the city is still investigating what caused a channel of the Farmers Mutual Ditch to wash out a portion of the trail.

Staff with the parks department have placed signs and barricades on the trail, which is located at the confluence of the Animas and San Juan rivers.

The city is urging residents not to use the trail until the water levels go down and the trail has been repaired.
