FARMINGTON — The San Juan Medical Foundation announced last week that it has selected Brenda Shepherd as its new executive director.

Shepherd has been serving as the interim director for the past year and previously worked as the assistant director of operations and annual giving coordinator for the foundation, according to a press release from the medical foundation.

The medical foundation is a nonprofit that works with San Juan Regional Medical Center to improve health care service. The foundation's projects have included the Connelly Hospitality House, which houses families who have to travel more than 50 miles for treatment at the hospital. The foundation also organizes the Get Pinked events each year, which raise awareness about breast cancer, and the Cancer Walkathon.

Shepherd began working for the foundation in 2001 as an executive assistant. She has worked in the health care industry since 1990 when she was hired by the hospital for a clerical job, according to the press release.
