FARMINGTON – Monster trucks have once again taken over the McGee Park Coliseum for the annual Kicker Monster Truck Mania.

The event is part of a traveling competition of independent drivers. The huge trucks launch into the air from dirt ramps, and the drivers compete against each other in freestyle, wheelies and race competitions.

Five trucks with names like Thunder Chicken and Red Solo Truck are competing this weekend, said event coordinator Tod Hammock.

The two-day competition began Friday and continues today. Doors open at 6 p.m., and the races and other competitions begin at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $19 for adults at the door and $12 for children.

People who arrive early will get a chance to take pictures with the trucks and meet the drivers during the pit party from 6 to 7:15 p.m.
