Mary Fischer to run for re-election
FARMINGTON – City Councilor Mary Fischer announced in a council work session Tuesday morning that she will run for re-election.
The municipal election will be on March 1, 2016, and will determine representatives for District 1 and District 2. Fischer has served as the representative of District 2 since 1992 and previously held the office from 1982 until 1986.
District 2 encompasses west Farmington, including Troy King Road and the La Plata Highway. It also includes portions of downtown Farmington, and the area between Apache Street and 20th Street. District 1 covers south Farmington.
District 1 is currently represented by Linda Rodgers, who took office earlier this year when former Councilor Dan Darnell moved to Rio Rancho. Rodgers has not yet announced whether she will run to retain the seat.
People can file their declarations of candidacy from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Jan. 5, 2016, at the city clerk's office. Candidates must live within the district they hope to represent.
Bloomfield, Aztec and Kirtland also will have municipal elections on March 1.
