FARMINGTON — Fire fighters responded to a small structure fire shortly before 8:30 a.m. this morning on Gold Avenue on the east side of the city.

The fire started on the porch of the residence where the occupants had boxes and other items stacked, said Nick Mrzlak, the Farmington Fire Department battalion chief..

The porch sustained the most damage, however the fire also caused minor damage to the interior of the house.

Mrzlak said no one was injured during the fire and damage to the structure was minimal.

"The guys had the fire out within seconds," Mrzlak said.

While the crews were fighting the fire, portions of Gold Avenue and East Hubbard Road were shut down, however the roads reopened shortly after 9 a.m.
