FARMINGTON — Farmington police detectives are investigating a homicide at the Rimrock Lodge.

Officers were dispatched at approximately 6:36 a.m. Monday to the motel, located at 2530 U.S. Highway 64, after receiving reports that a man's body was visible through an open door leading to one of the rooms.

Officers obtained a search warrant and located a 61-year-old Farmington man dead in the room.

The man's identity is being withheld, pending notification of his next of kin.

Farmington detective Lt. Daryl Noon said it was apparent there was a struggle in the room.

"We found some evidence, including blood, that indicated that this was, in fact, a homicide," Noon said.

Noon declined to answer specific questions about the homicide, citing the ongoing investigation.

"The details of the cause of death is something we don't want to release now," he said.

Noon said no specific person of interest has yet been identified in the case, but "we have a couple leads we are going to follow up on."

A woman who picked up the phone at Rimrock Lodge Monday afternoon said the motel remains open for business. She said the motel's owner does not want to comment on the homicide.

Anyone with information regarding the man's death is urged to contact Detective Mark Norwood at 505-599-1005.
