Annual event celebrates Fourth of July
FARMINGTON — Hundreds of people flocked to Brookside Park Saturday to celebrate the Fourth of July with games, food and live music.
The annual Party in the Park celebration is part of Farmington's Freedom Days celebration, which started Thursday and will end today. Saturday's party was an opportunity for families to celebrate Independence Day together.
Vendors provided food, games and activities, while a group of skateboarders participated in a competition at noon.
The proximity to the pool also helped families cool down. Many children also played in the creek running through the park.
Heather Wendeborn attended the party for this first time this year with her daughters, 1-year-old Summer and 5-year-old Aubree. She said they wanted to "get out of the house and have some fun."
For Aubree, that meant a water balloon fight. The water balloon fight was the highlight of the party for her, as she explained she enjoyed "throwing balloons at people."
While Wendeborn and her children attended for the first time this year, Samantha Wilson has been taking her family to the celebration for the past three years. Her son, 7-year-old Roman, said his favorite part of the party was the petting zoo.
The zoo, provided by Browning Ranch, included goats and llamas. Roman said the llamas were his favorite.
Wilson said she enjoys attending the celebration each year because it gives her children something to do.
"(Roman) likes to go on the rides," she added.
