FARMINGTON – Chevel Shepherd of Farmington wowed the crowd and her celebrity coach tonight as the Farmington High School junior performed in her first live elimination round on NBC’s “The Voice.”

Voting continues until 5 a.m. Tuesday, Mountain Time, on the NBC website and the official "Voice" app as viewers weigh in on which of the contestants should advance to the next level of competition, according to NBC’s website.

Winners will be announced Tuesday during the show’s next episode. Just 12 of the 24 contenders will reach the next round, joined by a 13th singer chosen during competition on the show's "The Comeback Stage."

Shepherd, 16, sang “Grandpa, Tell Me ‘Bout the Good Old Days,” drawing an enthusiastic response from the audience and her coach, singer Kelly Clarkson. The song was written by songwriter Jamie O'Hara, and released by the country duo The Judds in 1986.

Shepherd advanced to tonight's live show after her strong performance last week in the "Knockout Round," where she performed a cover of Bruce Robison's "Travelin' Soldier," a song that the Dixie Chicks turned into a chart-topping hit in 2002.

Songwriter Robison noticed her performance, Tweeting to Shepherd, “Way to go @officialchevel ! Great job singing my song, Travelin Soldier. Good luck on the show! #thevoice @NBCTheVoice”

Shepherd made her debut on Oct. 1, winning her "Blind Auditions" round with a performance of "If I Die Young" by The Band Perry. On Oct. 22 she won her "Battle Round" competition with a performance of "You Look So Good in Love," a tune written by Glen Ballard, Rory Michael Bourke and Kerry Chater that became a No. 1 hit for country legend George Strait in 1983.

Viewers have two ways to help select the winners on tonight's program. They can download the official "Voice" app at nbc.com/Voiceapp or they can go online to nbc.com/VoiceVote

Later rounds also will offer voting via Apple Music or Xfinity X1.
