Easter egg hunts scheduled throughout the week

FARMINGTON – With Easter around the corner, local communities are preparing for egg hunts.

The egg hunts range from the Tween Twilight Egg Hunt in Farmington to the Easter EGGstravaganza and the Bloomfield Easter Egg hunt.

The twilight egg hunt is geared for children between age 10 and 13 and is put on by the city of Farmington Parks, Recreation and Cultural Affairs. It starts at 8 p.m. when there is just a glimmer of light in the sky, according to Jody Carman, a spokeswoman for the PRCA. She said it will be dark during the hunt, so children should bring flashlights.

The EGGstravaganza at the Sycamore Park Community Center is a larger event that includes activities such as pictures with the Easter bunny. Each year, thousands of children attend the event. Last year's hunt attracted about 2,000 people, according to The Daily Times archives.

Because of its popularity, the staff has been preparing for months for the annual event.

"They stuff thousands and thousands of eggs," Carman said.

The main difference between the two Farmington hunts is the age group. The EGGstravaganza is geared toward families with children of all ages while the twilight hunt is specifically for a certain age group.

Another popular Easter egg hunt is the Bloomfield egg hunt at Salmon Park, which has been an annual tradition for about two decades. It is put on every year by the Bloomfield Chamber of Commerce as a free community event for children between 3 and 12 years of age.

Janet Mackey, the president of the chamber, said people should show up a few minutes early.

"It starts at 10:30 sharp, and it will be over by 10:40," she said.
