Two children rescued unharmed after becoming stuck on embankment
Boy and girl got trapped after climbing down to river
FARMINGTON — Two children who became stuck after climbing down a steep embankment toward the San Juan River were safely retrieved by rescue workers Friday afternoon southwest of Bloomfield.
Duane Bair, a division chief for the San Juan County Fire Department, said the children's plight was reported at 3:37 p.m. Friday off Sullivan Road. Personnel from a variety of agencies responded, including Bair's department, the Bloomfield Fire Department, the Bloomfield Police Department, the San Juan County Sheriff's Office and the county fire department's High Angle Rescue Team.
The children, a boy and a girl, had climbed down the embankment toward the river and apparently became trapped on their way back up when they encountered loose soil and lost their footing, Bair said.
The operation took approximately 90 minutes, and rescuers brought both the children back to the top of the embankment without any injuries.
