Crash leads to power outage for 5,000 customers
FARMINGTON — A vehicle crash in Bloomfield caused a short power outage today for approximately 5,000 customers in the Bloomfield, Aztec, Pump Canyon and eastern San Juan County areas, according to Farmington Electric Utility System Director Hank Adair.
The crash occurred at approximately 9:15 a.m. today near the intersection of North Church Street and West Blanco Boulevard in Bloomfield. The crash caused an anchor wire that supports a utility pole to wrap around an energized transmission line. Adair said the only way to safely extract the wire was to de-energize the transmission line.
The power was shut off shortly after 11:10 a.m. and remained out for about 35 minutes. Officials in Aztec and Bloomfield were notified prior to the power being shut off. Customers were also notified using social media.
Bloomfield Police Sgt. Josh Calder said it was a single-vehicle crash that resulted in minor injuries. He said the injuried parties were treated at the scene.
