Repairs completed on Bloomfield ditch

FARMINGTON — Water has now returned to the Bloomfield Irrigation Ditch.
According to a press release issued today by the San Juan County Office of Emergency Management, the ditch company began testing the repaired ditch on Friday and the ditch should be running at full capacity by Sunday.
The ditch has been shut down for about two weeks after a large portion of it collapsed. A culvert was installed in the section during the repairs.
The ditch was closed between Turley and Bloomfield, cutting off farmers, ranchers, companies and residents in the Harvest Gold Subdivision, and city of Bloomfield from the water. The city of Bloomfield has been using reserve water and water supplemented by the city of Aztec for drinking water.
The ditch users who are located above the section that was damaged are being asked to close their head gates until the ditch is fully charged, according to the press release.
