AZTEC — More than a dozen volunteers from the Aztec Senior Center removed some weeds and placed flowers on graves Thursday morning at the Aztec Cemetery.

Senior center director Cindy Iacovetto said the cemetery staff does a good job with maintenance, but the seniors wanted to lend a helping hand.

The volunteer service is part of an initiative at the senior center known as the Good Neighbor Campaign. The seniors participate in random acts of kindness, such as collecting clothes or cleaning yards.

“I do think that we need to promote kindness,” Iacovetto said.

A senior center received donations of floral arrangements to place on graves at the cemetery. Iacovetto said the volunteers focused on graves that were older or unmarked or looked like they needed a little attention.

The volunteers also placed flags on veterans’ graves.
