Guzman Energy is borrowing money to finance the completion of its new solar farm in west Aztec.

FARMINGTON — The city of Aztec will have a special commission workshop today at 5:30 p.m. to discuss utility rate structure.

It will be followed by a special meeting to discuss a proposal for prepayment for electricity from Guzman Energy. Both meetings will be at City Hall, 201 W. Chaco Ave.

The city entered a contract with Guzman Energy last year. As part of negotiations for lower power purchase rates, the city entered a prepayment plan with the company, according to city documents.

According to the city utility rate study documents released earlier this year, the city paid $2 million to Guzman during this fiscal year.

The commission will also hold a special workshop on the budget on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m.
