FARMINGTON – Aztec residents will be without electricity from 10 p.m. Thursday, June 2 until 6 a.m. Friday, June 3 as electric utility workers install a new metering system, according to a press release from the city of Aztec.

Crews from the Aztec Electric Department and the Farmington Electric Utility will be replacing a major high-voltage switch at the Light Plant substation, installing a new metering system and installing new transmission power lines.

Residents are advised to set alarms that do not require electricity, and charge portable electrical devices such as cell phones and laptops, according to the press release.

The city is also encouraging residents to avoid opening their refrigerator and freezer as much as possible so their food remains cold.

The city is also asking residents not to connect generators to the home's power system unless the generator was installed by an electrician and has the ability to disconnect the house from the city's power grid.

Residents with electric garage doors should be aware that the door will not open, and they should disengage the motor operator, according to the press release.
