FARMINGTON — The Aztec City Commission will vote on a proposal to lease a building designed to serve as a business incubator during a meeting Tuesday night.

If the measure is approved, the building, located at 119 W. Chuska St., would serve as a facility where new small businesses could locate.

The city has been trying to get a business incubator started as a way of revitalizing the downtown district and attracting businesses to the city.

The incubator is designed to help businesses get off their feet by providing a location to meet with customers.

The city of Aztec has secured two grants to help renovate the facility, including a $15,000 LEADS grant from the New Mexico Economic Development Department and an $18,000 grant from the Public Service Company of New Mexico.

If the city approves leasing the site, the owner will accept the improvements to the building and the property as lease payments for the next two years, according to the staff summary report attached to the meeting agenda.
