Motorists may experience short delays while driving on U.S. Highway 550 in Colorado

FARMINGTON — Planning a trip to Colorado? The Colorado Department of Transportation is warning motorists that construction between mile post 1.2 and milepost 1.9 on U.S. Highway 550 in La Plata County will impact travel.
According to a press release from the Colorado Department of Transportation, wait times of less than 10 minutes may occur.
The Colorado Department of Transportation is upgrading two bridge structures. This work includes concrete deck repair, placement of polyester concrete deck overlay and drainage improvements between the bridge structures, according to the press release.
The work began at 7 a.m. Oct. 21 and construction will be ongoing from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays through early December.
Traffic is currently narrowed to a single lane in both directions on the bridge structures and the speed limit has been reduced to 40 miles per hour.

The Colorado Department of Transportation is asking motorists to obey the posted speed limit and to stay alert, drive cautiously, watch for workers and avoid unnecessary lane changes. Drivers should also avoid using mobile devices in work zone and should turn on headlights for increased visibility.
