Carlsbad tops Expedia's list of scenic southwest cities
Carlsbad topped the list of the most scenic cities in the American Southwest recently.
The list, generated by the travel website Expedia, compiles the recommendation of 1,000 travelers.
Carlsbad's proximity to two national parks — Carlsbad Caverns and Guadalupe Mountains — helped distinguish it from competitors, along with the natural beauty of the Chihuahuan Desert.
While Colorado and Arizona cities made up the majority of the list, New Mexico had its fair share of scenic towns.
Las Cruces came in at 14th.
Picacho Peak, Doña Ana Mountains and White Sands Missile Range helped Las Cruces edge out other cities.
Sky City, near Acoma Pueblo, and Abiquiu also made the list.
