Singers sought for December holiday production at college

Although rehearsals have begun, singers still are being sought for the Christmas Extravaganza in December at San Juan College.

Anyone interested in taking part is encouraged to join the cast at rehearsal from 3 to 5 p.m. each Sunday in Room 9204 at the college, 4601 College Blvd. in Farmington.

The program will be performed at 7 p.m. Dec. 15 in the Henderson Fine Arts Center Performance Hall on the college campus. It will feature performances by the San Juan College Choir, the San Juan College Concert Band and the San Juan College Jazz Band, which is also looking for musicians interested in performing.

'New Mexico Before Columbus' presentation planned at college

Scholar Alan Osborne will provide a glimpse of life in the state before the arrival of the Europeans during a Chautauqua presentation this weekend at San Juan College.

Osborne will lecture on "New Mexico Before Columbus" at 7 p.m. Friday in the Little Theatre on the college campus, 4601 College Blvd. in Farmington.

The presentation is based on material uncovered over several decades of state-sponsored archaeological investigations and more than a century of anthropological discovery. Osborne — the co-founder of Southwest Seminars of Santa Fe, a nonprofit cultural organization — will focus on Paleo-Indian, archaic and classic ancestral cultures in his presentation.

Free screening of documentary 'Science Fair' planned this weekend

The Farmington Cinematheque Series at San Juan College continues this weekend with a free screening of "Science Fair."

The 2018 documentary from National Geographic is directed by Cristina Costantini and Darren Foster, and chronicles the experiences of nine high school students from around the world as they compete at the International Science and Engineering Fair in a quest to earned the coveted Best in Fair title.

The PG-rated film drew considerable critical praise and was the winner of the Audience Award at this year's Sundance Film Festival.
