FARMINGTON — The San Juan County Commission will hear a presentation about potential legislation related to the pending closure of the San Juan Generating Station and the county’s transition away from coal during its meeting at 4 p.m. Thursday at the county administration building, 100 S. Oliver Drive in Aztec.

Commissioners also will discuss an application by Hilcorp to change the oil and gas well density rule for the Blanco-Mesa Verde formation in San Juan County. The commission could choose to pass a resolution supporting the change. The change would allow up to eight wells per 320-acre unit, which is double what is currently allowed.

The meeting will include a closed session to discuss pending or contemplated legislation in relation to Public Service Company of New Mexico’s Integrated Resource Plan. The Integrated Resource Plan calls for closing the San Juan Generating Station in 2022. The county is concerned about the economic impact that closing the generating station could have on the area.
