FARMINGTON — Voters who want to cast an absentee ballot in this year’s general election must submit a request for a ballot to the San Juan County Clerk’s Office, 100 S. Oliver Drive in Aztec.

Voters who want an absentee ballot must submit an application to the San Juan County Clerk's Office by the end of the day Friday. The absentee ballot then will be mailed to the voter and must be returned to the County Clerk’s Office or to one of the Election Day polling locations by 7 p.m. Tuesday, according to a press release from the New Mexico Secretary of State’s Office. Absentee ballots cannot be taken to early-voting sites.

According to the press release, nearly 50,000 New Mexico residents already have returned an absentee ballot.

In the press release, Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver encouraged voters who may request an absentee ballot on Friday to consider voting in person during early-voting hours Friday and Saturday or on Election Day, which is Tuesday. The press release states the uncertain nature of postal delivery is why Toulouse Oliver is encouraging voters who have not yet requested absentee ballots to vote in person.
