One man killed in fatal wreck north of Aztec along U.S. Highway 550

FARMINGTON — Local and state authorities responded to a fatal vehicle rollover this afternoon along U.S. Highway 550 north of Aztec.

One man was killed in the incident, according to San Juan County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Jayme Harcrow. Authorities have not yet released his identity.

First-responders were dispatched around 12:40 p.m. to the area of 168-mile maker of U.S. Highway 550 between Aztec and the New Mexico/Colorado state line on reports of a vehicle rollover.

The sheriff's office, New Mexico State Police and the San Juan County Fire Department responded to the scene.

Traffic is moving through the area as authorities investigated the vehicle, which landed on its roof off the highway, Harcrow said.

One of the people who reported the rollover told dispatch they saw the vehicle flip over four times, according to Harcrow.

State police are handling the investigation into the wreck.
