FARMINGTON — The San Juan County Commission likely will confirm the state's calculations on property tax rates during its 4 p.m. Tuesday meeting in the county administration building at 100 S. Oliver Drive in Aztec.

The commission initially was scheduled to meet to confirm the rates on Thursday, but the meeting was canceled when an error was discovered in the state's calculations.

The county does not set the property tax rates.

The calculations are checked by the county, as well as municipalities and school districts.

Farmington to set up economic development fund

The city of Farmington likely will transfer $1.5 million from its general fund into a community development and economic diversification fund to pay for projects that begin before the city begins to see additional revenue from the gross receipts tax increase it recently approved.

The tax will go into affect on Jan. 1, and the city will begin seeing revenue from the increase in March.

The City Council likely will approve the transfer of $1.5 million during its 9 a.m. work session Tuesday. The council will meet at City Hall, 800 N. Municipal Drive.

CCSD board to meet in Naschitti

The Central Consolidated School District board on Tuesday will consider accepting a financial donation from the New Mexico Aviation Aerospace Association.

The funds will help Newcomb High School students attend the New Mexico Aviation Aerospace STEM Expo on Sept. 27 in Alamogordo.

This event focuses on science, technology, engineering and mathematics, in addition to promoting aviation and aviation aerospace, according to the organization's website.

During the regular meeting, board members will listen to reports about fundraising efforts for Tsé Bit A'í Middle School, the Johnson-O'Malley Indian Education program, and the history and challenges of athletic training in Newcomb.

Among the items on the consent agenda are field trip requests, revised graduation dates for the school year and the acceptance of a donation from TOMS Shoes to Newcomb Middle School.

The board will meet at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Naschitti Elementary School.
