Totah Festival ushered in with awards ceremony, poster unveiling
The 30th annual Totah Festival got started tonight at the Farmington Museum at Gateway Park with an awards ceremony for the festival's juried art show and the unveiling of the festival poster.
During tonight's awards ceremony, the Best of Show title went to Georgia Kieyoomia for her silver necklace "Two Tribes."
There also were winners in various other categories such as wood carving, painting and jewelry. First place in the sculpture category went to Tim Washbun for his work "Reservation Herding." The Emerging Artist award went to Shanidiin Fawn Yazzie for her paintings.
Activities continue throughout the day Saturday and Sunday at the museum, 3041 E. Main St. Saturday's lineup includes a Native fashion show, a rug auction and a contest pow wow. Sunday's offerings include a 5k race and 1-mile walk, a cultural expo and a contest pow wow.
