Flash floods possible statewide

FARMINGTON — The National Weather Service has issued an alert warning New Mexico residents of potential flash floods this weekend as the remnants of Tropical Storm Bud move across the state.

The storm will bring showers and thunderstorms into New Mexico. The National Weather Service warns heavy rainfall will increase over the state through Saturday.

According to the alert, between half an inch and an inch of rainfall can be expected between tonight and Saturday night. It warns that localized areas could see two to three inches and flash flooding could occur anywhere in the state.

Areas where wildfires have recently burned could cause mud slides, rock slides or debris flows.

People should check forecasts on weather.gov/abq before recreating outdoors and should have plans to reach higher ground in the event of a flash flood.

If a section road appears flooded, drivers should not attempt to cross it.
