FARMINGTON — Farmington is in the process of negotiating with a Durango, Colorado, company to update the bicycle and pedestrian plan for the Farmington Metropolitan Planning Organization.

The MPO is made up of representatives from the four local municipalities, the county and the New Mexico Department of Transportation. It serves as a regional transportation planning organization. The city of Farmington is the fiscal agent for the MPO.

On Tuesday, the City Council authorized the city staff to begin negotiations with Russell Planning and Engineering for the new bicycle and pedestrian plan.

The last bicycle and pedestrian plan was developed in 2008. Mayor Nate Duckett, who also serves on the MPO policy committee, said the plan will look at places where the local entities can install bike paths and trails.
