Fire burns garage in Flora Vista

No injuries reported despite exploding propane cans

FARMINGTON — The San Juan County Fire Department responded to a brush fire this afternoon in Flora Vista.

County Fire Chief Craig Daugherty said the fire was reported at about 2:30 p.m. at 50 County Road 3535.

It extended to a garage and burned down the structure, he said.

The garage was used for storage, and there were multiple explosions from propane cans inside the structure, but no injuries were reported, Daugherty said.

The fire also caused minor damage to two nearby homes.

With dry conditions continuing in the area, Daugherty urged people to use caution, including keeping property cleared of weeds, debris and other types of ignition sources.
