Governor praises San Juan County legislators while signing capital outlay bill
FARMINGTON — Gov. Susana Martinez praised San Juan County legislators when she signed the capital outlay bill Wednesday.
Martinez signed the capital outlay bill with numerous line-item vetoes.
Martinez said in her executive message accompanying the bill that the San Juan County legislators should be applauded for pooling their capital outlay dollars to request funding to replace an aging bridge over the San Juan River on County Road 5500 in Lee Acres.
The legislators requested nearly $2.5 million for the bridge replacement.
Martinez said in her executive message that the $2.5 million bridge replacement will have lasting positive impacts for the community.
Traffic on the bridge was reduced to one lane this week, and a traffic control signal was added to reduce speeding and the numbers of heavy vehicles on the bridge.
The bridge replacement was one of two capital outlay requests that Martinez highlighted as an example of legislators pooling funds.
The other project was $1.9 million for work on N.M. Highway 347 in Bernalillo and Sandoval counties.
The capital outlay allocations also include $500,000 for the city of Bloomfield to replace a water storage tank. Bloomfield had asked for $1.6 million for the tank.
