FARMINGTON — Kirtland Town Council members Larry Hathaway and Jason Heslop are running unopposed for a second term. Here are Hathaway's responses to a questionnaire from The Daily Times. Heslop did not return the questionnaire.

Larry E. Hathaway

Occupation: General services administrator for San Juan County

Previous political experience: Trustee for the Town of Kirtland

What do you hope to accomplish if you are elected?

We need to continue to expand our revenue base in order to develop infrastructure to better serve our citizens and to improve the business climate.

What do you think are the biggest challenges facing the town?

The closure of the San Juan Generating Station by Public Service Company of New Mexico in 2022. The negative impact of the event on the regional economy will be devastating.

What can the town of Kirtland do now to prepare for the economic impacts of the potential closing of the San Juan Generating Station and the Four Corners Power Plant?

We need to grow and diversify the local economy by developing our tourism, recreation, manufacturing, agriculture and energy industries.
