Children receive free dental care during Give Kids a Smile

San Juan College event targets underprivileged kids

FARMINGTON — About 50 children had their teeth cleaned by 20 volunteer dentists today during the 15th annual Give Kids a Smile event at San Juan College's Human Health and Performance Center.

The event is put together by the San Juan College Dental Hygiene Program, as well as the local Dental Society. Dental hygiene students at San Juan College worked with local dentists to perform X-rays and clean teeth. The event helps children from economically disadvantaged homes in San Juan County. 

The children were given prizes, as well as bags that included toothbrushes. Dental hygiene students also worked with the patients to teach them proper the technique for brushing their teeth.
