FARMINGTON — Dannon Jim, 34, and Shynoah Jim, 11, of Tsaile, Arizona, were killed early Sunday morning in a crash involving a Buick SUV and a commercial vehicle, according to a press release from New Mexico State Police. Two of their family members were injured in the crash.

The crash occurred at approximately 1:45 a.m at. the intersection of County Road 6500 and U.S. Highway 64 in Kirtland.

According to the press release, a 2018 Kenworth commercial motor vehicle was rear-ended by a 2016 Buick SUV while slowing to stop at a red light. Police say there were no signs of skid marks or the SUV braking prior to the crash.

Dannon Jim and Shynoah Jim were in the SUV. The Office of the Medical Investigator pronounced them deceased at the scene, according to the press release. The two surviving family members who were also in the SUV were transported to San Juan Regional Medical Center and later flown to the University of New Mexico Hospital in Albuquerque with critical injuries, the press release states.

Neither the driver nor the co-driver of the commercial vehicle were injured in the crash.

State police are continuing to investigate the crash and believe alcohol was a factor, according to the press release.
