FARMINGTON — Portions of San Juan River below Navajo Dam will be temporarily closed from the middle of December until April, according to a press release from the New Mexico Department of Game and Fish.

During the time the areas are closed, the department will be working on a river enhancement project that includes a new boat takeout at the Crusher Hole Day-Use Area.

The Crusher Hole Day-Use Area will be closed to the public from Dec. 15 until March 1, and boaters will not have access to the boat takeout. A temporary boat takeout will be constructed at the Munoz Day-Use Area, which will provide access to the upper portions of the San Juan River, according to the press release.

The Bolack Day-Use Area will also be closed from Dec. 15 until April 15. County Road 4280, which provides access to the area, will be closed. Anglers will still have access to the area at Cottonwood Campground, according to the press release.

Use of the San Juan River downriver of Simon Point will be closed to boat traffic and wading into the river for fishing from Dec. 15 until March 1. After March 1, use of the river will be limited until April 15.
