FARMINGTON — The Healing Field is once again transforming the football field at the Farmington Boys & Girls Clubs to a place where the public can remember and pay tribute to military personnel.

Volunteers set up flags on Friday morning for the event, which remains in place throughout the Memorial Day weekend.

Melissa Meechan, operations manager for the event, said the display provides an opportunity for community members to honor the sacrifice made by service men and women.

Leah Dennison carries flags Friday as volunteers help set up a Healing Field at the Boys & Girls Clubs football field in Farmington.

"We've had folks come and sit for two hours. They find a peaceful place and be reflective and work through their feelings and when they're done, they leave," she said. "We've prayed for people here."

This is the sixth year for the event, which is sponsored by San Juan County Rotary Club, and a closing ceremony will be at 5 p.m. Monday.
