FARMINGTON – Over the past 17 years, Presbyterian Medical Service's Northwest New Mexico Hospice's Daffodil Days fundraiser has become an annual tradition.

Volunteers make bouquets of flowers that are then sold at various locations throughout San Juan County.

Anne Balloo, a hospice volunteer, helped arrange bouquets Thursday prior to sales.

"This is my first time with Daffodil Days, and I'm enjoying it very much," she said.

The money raised goes to help hospice patients.

Joann Sattler, left, joins dozens of other volunteers preparing daffodils for a fundraiser Thursday at the First Presbyterian Church in Farmington.

"All the money stays in San Juan County," said Nancy Rehbein, the chairman of the Daffodil Days committee.

Daffodil Days is the largest fundraiser for Northwest New Mexico Hospice. Last year, it raised between $16,000 and $17,000.

"We sold out last year," Rehbein said, adding the committee hopes to sell out again this year.

This year's sale also has several new features, including new vases with Northwest New Mexico Hospice's logo on them. The vases can be collapsed after the flowers are no longer blooming.

"You can put it in your desk or wherever you want to use them," Rehbein said.

The fundraiser also includes daffodil pins for $2.

Rehbein said new features will be added to sales in future years, as well.

"We're trying to make the whole month of March hospice month," she said.
