FARMINGTON — Economic development officials will hold a "brown bag lunch" meeting on Thursday to help area small business owners learn techniques to hire employees and comply with employment regulations.

WESST and the San Juan College Enterprise Center will host the free workshop from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday in Room 5017 at the Quality Center for Business, 5101 College Blvd. in Farmington.

Chris Hunter — who is the regional manager for WESST, a statewide nonprofit organization that strives to support local businesses — said the workshop will be a bring-your-own-lunch workshop led by Mary Gordy, former human resources director at Giant Industries Inc.

Gordy will offer recruiting and interviewing strategies, as well as employee file must-haves, Hunter said.

"For small employers who are hiring their first employee or small businesses that infrequently hire, doing it right absolutely matters," Hunter said. "This training is geared to the small business community. It's really hiring 101."
